Okay, time to act like a book blogger already.
This is a weekly meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words.
It’s three questions:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you will read next?
What Are You Currently Reading?
This is not a book. It is a wiki. Someone recently introduced me to the Pro Male Wiki.
Most Men’s Rights content comes from a conservative, or trad-con, perspective.
This is Men’s Rights from a different, less conservative, perspective. And I honestly just think it’s really neat.
I’ve been immersing myself in Men’s Rights content since I first watched ‘The Red Pill’ Documentary back in 2016. I never really noticed how trad-con most of it is. Here’s a different way of looking at men’s issues and I’m really digging it.
They make a lot of interesting points. Like how the backlash against furries comes from a place of inherent misandy. And the way women’s well being is disproportionately focused on, at the expense of men’s well being.
Okay, so this isn’t a book, so I’m probably still a shit book blogger. But fuck, half of you guys trotting out graphic novels and Babysitter Club “nostalgia reads.” No hate, but if you guys can count that, I’m gonna count a wiki.
It’s my new favorite wiki to explore. I really hope it continues to be added to. I highly encourage everybody to check it out and to overall just start considering the possibility that men aren’t actually as “privileged” as we’ve been led to believe.
What Did You Recently Finish Reading?
Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe
Here is the TLDR:
Dude conjures a demon.
Demon is like: ‘Oh, yeah, I can totally be your evil servant and help you conquer the world and all kinds of cool shit. You just have to agree to give us your soul and come to Hell and be tortured for all of eternity when you die.’
Faustus: ‘It’s fine. I don’t believe in Hell anyway.’
Demon: ‘Yeah, but….I’m telling you it is real. We will for real torture the shit out of you.’
Demon: ‘Cool, sign here in blood.’
End of Faustus’ life comes and Satan shows up to drag him to Hell.
I also read a LOT of Sir Francis Bacon’s essays in the past week, because I’m writing a paper comparing Bacon to Locke, specifically how each of them positioned the individual in regards to the quest for truth and an ideal society. Covering all kinds of neat shit like observation in the natural sciences, empiricism, and individual property rights.
Got a B+ on the rough draft of it, so that was neat.
Anyway, I’ve read too many of Bacon’s essays to list them all. I’ll just cover the ones I used the most in my paper:
“Of Marriage and Single Life”
And I read sections from Bacon’s Utopian fiction, “The New Atlantis.”
I also read Locke’s “An Essay Concerning Human Understanding.”
What Do You Think You Will Read Next?
I still need to buckle down and finish the second Wheel of Time book
That’s it for me! What are you reading right now?
